Concert Review: North America Blood Stained Earth Tour 2017 Venom Inc, Goatwhore

Contributing writer and photographer: Teri Wright

It has been many years since Venom ventured out on stage, and on September 21st at Club Red in Mesa, AZ they brought the house down. The original Venom broke out into the scene in 1979 with the intensity and influential to be a founder to many metal bands that have been heard through the ages. To see them come out and tear up the stage again was a walk back in time and music to my ears. Hard hitting riffs sends shivers down one's spine realizing just how influential this band really is still.

Goatwhore opened up for Venom that evening. My first time seeing this group and they do not disappoint. The vocals, the entire seduction to my ears of perfect rhythmic timing and commanding their instruments was a pure pleasure that satisfied my craving for metal music.

Hearing the screams from the vocalist L.Ben Falgoust II, along with the rest of his bandmates. I can only believe these southern boys hailing from New Orleans, LA. really knew how to cast a spell on their devoted fans along with their new followers.

It’s no wonder Goatwhore which has been around since 1997 is regaining their reign as a metal band that will continue to rise to the top.

The night was an exuberant mix of metal music, from openers like Toxic Holocaust, Convalescence, and a few other guests. It never ceases me the talent of many bands across the country, and some hiding in regions you would never imagine “metal” to be found. I find that entices the ultimate cravings of metalheads as they keep wanting more.

I left Club Red after Venom inc. to go to another show I was assigned to.

Arriving at Yucca Tap Room in Tempe, AZ I was able to catch a few songs from the band Junius. With a haunting melodic tone that I would classify as a mixture of Bring me the horizon and Gregorian Monks. Junius seemed to draw a crowd that appeared to be in a trance with the deep seductive tones of lead vocalist Joseph E. Martinez. Hailing from the great state of Massachusetts, Junius was formed in 2003 and seems to continue to enchant the mind of synths, harder guitar chugs, mixed with the powerful rhythmic beats that keep your mind seduced.

Hearing different genres of music is how we grow, and learn to enhance our taste for the future in music. To learn the broad spectrum of genres that do lie within our grasp and among our imagination, That is when we finally awaken our senses.
