BANGS!: Talk about how music has influenced you as an individual in your daily living.

Jenny Teator: Music is all about feeling for me. It affects my mood, style and work ethic. It's literally my fuel every day! I have a new respect for musicians out here doing this because it’s a straight hustle. You can’t just exist here…and hope for something to happen lol. Before moving to Nashville to actually pursue music, I had no idea how much goes into creating a career in music, especially as an artist. I’ve learned so much here in regards to songwriting, production, music business and it's definitely given me a new perspective on life and how I approach situations. I’m incredibly grateful for all the lessons I’ve learned and I try to spread that positive outlook on my surrounding peers as well! It’s all part of the journey.

BANGS!: Where do you find yourself listening to music most often?

Jenny Teator: In my car or in my room. Both are pretty equal, I’m always on the go but when I’m not I’m in my room with music on in the background.

BANGS!: What are your favorite brands to use when it comes to the instruments, mics, amps, pedals and so on? Why do you favor them?

Jenny Teator: I have a few! I have an acoustic fender parlor that I’ve been touring with and I love how portable it is size wise. It plays really well and I’ve always gotten good feedback on that guitar. I also have a Breedlove acoustic that I purchased right before moving to Nashville! It's a beauty. My most recent guitar (that I won at NAMM) is a D’ Angelico Bob Weir Signature electric guitar. I’m in love. The picture does it justice alone, but I am starting to play more electric now and got a Vox amp to go with it for now. Electric is still a new area for me, but I’m loving everything about it and can’t wait to keep playing her out! I named her Susan, after my idol Susan Tedeschi. :) I’ve always stuck to Shure mics, but I’m not a huge gear head so I got off recommendations and trustworthy sound techs when it comes to that gear. Pedals are also a new thing with me, right now I have an overdrive pedal by Greer Amps called “light speed” that I love!

BANGS!: Talk about your current project. It's conception. How it evolved. The storyline behind its development or any anecdotes that may have occurred during the writing/recording process?

Jenny Teator: My first single “Surrender” as a solo artist released today. Surrender is about lust and curiosity. It talks about the primal want you get when someone comes into your life and they leave you wanting MORE. It’s more than just “I’m attracted to you”. There was a guy I met that evoked these feelings in me. It was this powerful gut feeling that took over my body, creating thoughts of what it could be like with this person. I had never felt that way before and the only way I could describe it was PRIMAL. It was just different, sexy and fun. I think we are quick to disregard those moments and immediately feel “dirty” or “wrong” for thinking those thoughts. I’m saying, embrace it. We are only human. The possibilities are endless Y'all!

BANGS!: Is there a particular part you enjoy more than another in the process of a project?

Jenny Teator: I love the recording process. Its the part where you can get in the studio and get creative with the song and seeing/hearing it come to life is the most exciting part for me. Acoustically is cool, but I absolutely love the production side of things. Hearing the instruments come together to create the emotion and feel of the song is what it's all about! I love love love it.

BANGS!: How do you know when a song is done and ready to be taken to the recording studio and produced?

Jenny Teator: I typically consider the reaction from the crowd when I play it out first. I could really like a song, but the ones that get the best reactions and positive feedback are a sign that its the ONE to record. Sometimes my choice aligns with the market’s choice and sometimes it doesn’t. But I think it’s good to listen to your fans and close peers when deciding if it’s ready or not. Ultimately, it’s my choice but I do consider those factors as well!

BANGS!: Looking towards the short and long term of where you might be currently- where do you see yourself (yourselves) as an artist/band in 2019 and beyond?

Jenny Teator: Short term- I’d like to tour this year and really get some good exposure to the road and new fans by opening up for someone more established. I also want to get a few more singles out before I record an EP! Long term- I wanna have the chance to share the stage with Tedeschi Trucks Band- even if it’s just ONE SONG I can sing with them… I’d die happy haha. I’ve put out a TTB cover almost every Thursday last year to try to get their attention and one day they will see it! They are a big influence on my music taste, feel and vocal tendencies. I just love them. I’ll get there, its more in the beyond category haha but I’m going to make it happen, just wait. Honestly, though, long term I just want to be able to have a music career that gives me the financial freedom to do what I love, share my stories and relate to the masses because that is what we are all here for- to connect with one another human to human. Music can facilitate that. It is a healing and therapeutic outlet for me and I choose it for life.
